Gambit Why.....

Gambit suffers from the same problem that Wolverine does.
He is a likable character, but because of his personality, some people like him more than he deserves and he becomes trendy.
that leads to overexposure in the comics because Marvel is trying to cash in on his trendiness.
this causes fans who like Gambit a normal amount, to actually dislike him because he is trendy.
so, I don't think many fans actually dislike Wolverine or Gambit.. but because other fans are going nuts for them, it makes casual fans say, "he sucks"
happens all the time.
I like Wolverine as a character.. but because he is in every comic every month, I can't stand seeing him... and when other people worship him, I have to say Wolverine is crap

I'm one of the haters. I never liked the character or his lame power. I think the cajun, mysterious, ladies man is stupid. Of course, I wasn't reading x-men when he was introduced so that may be part of the reason I don't like him. I actually have started liking him better now that I've read some of x-men: the end.

I think it's not only the over exposure, but the fact that he's a ball of every little cliche that a "cool 90's" comic character can have. He's a dark, mysterious, cocky, handsome, ladies man with an accent, who while he's on the team, you're never sure of his true motives. Yet just when you think he's duped the team he does some great heroic act to prove himself.
I'll admit, I fell for the whole thing when I was 12, but I really haven't liked him in quite awhile. He got really old in the cartoon too.

I liked Gambit when he was tall, skinny, had red eyes, and was spooky looking.Didn't he also smoke when he was first introduced??When he first came to the XMen he was protecting Storm while she had been de-aged and was on the run. When she became an adult again it seemed like that friendship between the two was totally dropped and the 'ladies man' Gambit was what remained.
His origins left alot to be desired and over-exposure just kept piling on the baggage.
To me over the course of the last 16 years he has went downhill from the time he was introduced. He stands as a dark reminder of the 90's.

Favorite character. Period. I was out of comics completely, caught the FOX cartoon, and had no idea who many of those characters were (Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee). I picked up some of the Jim Lee X-Men, and he became my favorite. Even have a tattoo of Gambit.
Over-exposed? Seems Gambit got the shaft over the last few years. While his third mini-series was okay, he hasn't had a good story since he was introduced into X-treme. Since then, he was captured and used as a portal, stabbed through the heart, lost his powers, regained his powers and became blind, was featued in a horrible "triangle" story, and now turned into Death with goofy gas powers.
What needs to be done...
Lose the Death thing. Pretend it was the Dallas/shower thing, I don't care. Just return him to normal.
Good writers who like the character are needed. They are the backbone to any character.
Drop the Rogue romance. The James Bond ladies-man can't be played if he's married.
Good artists, which gets a big "duh," but the artwork for the Bishop/Gambit mini-series was just awful, and killed any chance of that being a hit. The later X-treme Gambit didn't look right either, which really hurts the character.
Tweak the costume. The overcoat era was very 90's, but it's time to modernize the outfit.
Bring back the cards, his trademark. I can't even remember the last time I saw Gambit throw a charged card.
Personally, I liked Gambit and Psylocke over on New Avengers, instead of Wolverine. Wolverine will always be an X-Man, and just didn't need any more stories. He's way too over-exposed. A new direction for Gambit could have been on New Avengers. Trust issues. Mutant issues. Conflicts with teammates. Could have worked.
If Marvel had a clue, they would realize that the breakout character over on the hottest show is Sawyer from LOST. Sawyer and Gambit are so alike, many posts wanted to see Holloway play Gambit in X3. Big missed opportunity to capitalize on a character.
Gambit has been, and always will be, my favorite.

I don't like Gambit much at all, but I don't hate him. He's just a character that has been written so inconsistently in the last several years. He's also just an untrustworthy kind of guy, especially now that he's a Horseman of Apocalypse. Personally, if you ask me, the only way he can be saved is to die a hero's death by helping bring down Apocalypse and sacrificing himself in the process.

The Ultimate Gambit was really good, and getting better. I liked the 2-issue story early on, but the later arc with Gambit vs. Wolverine was fantastic. I was also digging the Annual, right up until Juggy came in (talk about a goofy costume) and Gambit died. I haven't picked up an Ultimate X-Men since.
